This weekend we went to Cape Coast, which is only about 4 hours away southwest along the coast. Our entire ISEP group went, and it is nice to travel with 40 people we know. We went to the Cape Coast slave castle, which was something that wasn't fun, but very informational, and very sad.

We got to go down into the basement and saw where the slaves were kept during the slave trade. It was really hot down there, and that was after they had cut holes in the stone to see better and for more air for tours.
It is right on the coast, so the ocean was very beautiful to look at, but we had to realize that it was the passageway for the slaves to be carried away from their homes forever.
Our hotel had crocodiles in the water surrounded it! We got to see them in the water, and then we saw one outside of the water sleeping, so we got to touch it!
The motel had a pool (one without crocodiles), so we also got to swim. On Sunday we left the motel and went to Kakum National Park, which has 7 bridges made of cargo net, aluminum ladders, and wooden planks. They are pretty high above the canopy of the rainforest, about 130 ft. It was really neat to see all of the plants from above, and the bridges were pretty scary to walk on!
We got back just in time for the final football (soccer) match for the Africa Cup of Nations. Ghana was playing Egypt for the gold, but unfortunately they lost. I started to watch it in the downstairs lobby, and then moved to the other international dorm across the parking lot to see it projected on a big screen.
Dinner was mango and rice (something that Ghanaians think is really weird). Also, I got to meet some University of Alberta nursing students who had just arrived. They are almost done with University, so they are working at local hospitals nearby before taking their finals when they get back. To all of you who don't know, I used to live right by there, and my mother and cousin went there!
